About Dr Vernon Freeman

Dr Vernon Freeman is a cardiologist who diagnoses, assesses and treats patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels at Melomed Bellville. He has been with the hospital group since 2004.

Dr Freeman earned his qualifications at the University of Stellenbosch, acquiring his medical degree in 1990, and a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine in 1999. Dr Freeman went on to specialise, achieving a certificate in Cardiology from the College of Medicine South Africa in 2003. Dr Freeman worked and gained valuable experience working as a Registrar at Tygerberg Hospital from 1996 to 2004.

Dr Vernon Freeman participated in a two-year training programme in Electrophysiology at the Medical University in Utrecht in the Netherlands, followed by additional training at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Since completing his overseas training, Dr Freeman now practises as a general cardiologist, offering consultation and management for patients with coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure and valvular heart disease. With subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology, Dr Freeman specialises in heart rhythm disorders and cardiac electronic implanted devices and is accredited by the Cardiac Arrhythmia Society of Southern Africa. Currently, he performs heart procedures at the well-equipped Bellville Melomed and Melomed Tokai Hospitals and provides outpatient consults at Bellville Melomed Hospital.

Dr Freeman believes that prevention is better than cure and encourages patients to take responsibility for their health and invest in self-care and lifestyle modification before it is too late. These lifestyle changes include a healthy diet, regular exercise, regular medical check-ups and compliance to prescribed medication.

Dr Freeman is an experienced, highly trained doctor who has helped many patients from all walks of life and comes highly recommended.
